There’s only one day each year when you can ride a bicycle across the iconic San Diego-Coronado Bridge. On Sunday, August 23, Bike the Bay returns with a new way to experience its signature ride.

New this year is The 5-Miler, aka “Just the Bridge,” a shorter route for cyclists who want the thrill of crossing the bridge without completing the full loop around San Diego Bay.

And the best part? You bike across the bridge and take the Flagship Ferry back.

Just the Bridge

The new 5-mile route starts at Embarcadero Marina Park South, behind the San Diego Convention Center. Riders cross the Coronado Bridge, continue to the Coronado Ferry Landing, and then hop aboard the Flagship Ferry for the trip back across San Diego Bay.

It’s two classic San Diego experiences in one morning: bike over the bay, then cruise back across it.

Participating 5-Miler cyclists receive a one-way ferry ticket from Bike the Bay, valid for return service from Coronado Ferry Landing to either Fifth Avenue Landing near the Convention Center or Broadway Pier.

For registration, route details and everything you need to know before you ride, visit the official Bike the Bay website →

Taking the Flagship Ferry

Ferries will run on their regularly scheduled departures. Riders should expect a busy morning at the Coronado Ferry Landing, and bicycle capacity is limited and at the discretion of the crew, so some delays may occur.

Coming from Coronado? Early ferry service from Coronado Ferry Landing to Fifth Avenue will depart at 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. Regular fares apply for passengers traveling to the event.

Whether you’re tackling the full Bike the Bay course or trying the new 5-Miler, it’s one of San Diego’s most memorable mornings on two wheels.

Bike the bridge. Ferry back. Enjoy the bay from both sides.
